Barisan Nasional must respect the country’s democratic system and both the federal and state constitutions, said Perak’s former senior state executive council member Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.
He said the State Assembly Speaker who leads the Rights and Privileges Committee had based his decisions on the federal and state constitutions and the laws governing them.
“The committee’s decisions must be respected. It has played its role as prescribed by the law in our democratic system,” Ngeh said referring to the decision to bar and suspend Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and his six executive council members from the state assembly.
The Perak DAP chief was hitting out at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and others who he claimed were trying to use the Sultan of Perak to further their political agenda.
He asked that the Sultan not be dragged into the arena of politics, which is divisive in times of crisis.
“His Royal Highness must remain the symbol of unity and rise above politics,” he said.
