Deputy Inspector-General of Police, TanSri Ismail Omar said any action against 11 police personnel implicated in the death of A.Kugan will be based on a directive from the Attorney-General (A-G).
He said Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail would have to study the investigation papers including the second autopsy report before making a decision."Appropriate action will be taken after the Attorney-General has made a decision based on the second autopsy report," he told reporters after opening a seminar for police Muslim converts here today.Kugan, 22, a car theft suspect died at Kajang Hospital four days after hewas remanded to assist police investigation on Jan 15.The first autopsy report said Kugan died from accumulation of fluid in the lungs, much to the dissastisfaction of family members as there were injuries on his body.
Following a request by Kugan''s mother Indra Nallathamby , a second autopsy was conducted on Jan 25 by Dr Prashant N.Samberkar, a specialist forensic pathologist at Universiti Malaya''s Medical Centre (UUMC).Ismail said the autopsy report to be sent to Abdul Gani was based on facts and a statement from the specialist forensic pathologist."We will record the doctor''s statement on the autopsy and the report will be included in the investigation papers to be sent," he said.Kugan's family lawyer N. Surendran said recently, the second autopsy report conducted by the UUMC specialist pathologist said that he died from failure of organs due to repeated beatings with a blunt object.
