Rulers asked to seek restoration of immunity

The Kedah Royal Household Association will ask the Conference of Rulers to seek the restoration of immunity for rulers.
It said this was needful to ensure that “certain parties” would not “belittle the Malay rulers who are the pillars and protectors of the strength of the Malays.”
Association president Tengku Datuk Zainol Rashid Tengku Yahya said the call would be made after a large-scale gathering in Kuala Lumpur soon by 250 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to express loyalty to the Malay rulers.
“If immunity is restored, the issue of mocking the Malay rulers will probably not arise,” he told reporters after the flagging off of participants of a treasure hunt organised by the association here.
The Sultan Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, flagged off 45 cars participating in the hunt from Alor Setar to Haadyai in Thailand.
Tengku Zainol Rashid led more than 100 treasure hunters in pledging their loyalty to the Malay rulers at the ceremony.
He also warned politicians not to raise the issue of the sovereignty of the Malay rulers in their agenda, saying that if they persisted in doing so, “we will find a way to stop them.” -- Bernama
