Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he would leave it to the Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Law Heng Keang, to reply personally the allegation of his dismal performance at an exposition in Australia recently.
"Law is in Australia and I am here. I can't see what happened there. So, it's better to wait for him to return and respond to the allegation personally," he said. Law was scheduled to return to Penang today, he told reporters after attending a function here.Lim said Law must be given a chance to explain all the allegations raised by an entrepreneur in the tourism industry via e-mail sent to him which, among other things, alleged that Law failed to carry himself as a representative of the state government.
According to press reports yesterday, an entrepreneur in the tourism industry, who wished to be identified as TK Choong, recently sent an e-mail to Lim criticising Law''s performance while participating in the two-day Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo 2009 in Melbourne beginning Feb 17. According to the e-mail, which was also circulated to other industry players, Choong, who has been involved in the industry for 15 years, claimed Law failed to carry himself as a representative of the state government, could not communicate in English proficiently and did not know how to market Penang to the foreign tourists. He claimed that Law failed to understand the marketing concept and did not know how to differentiate between a consumers fair and a trade fair, and suggested that the state government replaced the Tourism Committee Chairman with another leader.
